By purchasing a ticket to or entering the Shediac Mascarade, all guests agree to our Code of Conduct. The full text is on its own page. What follows is the short version.
Admission
The Shediac Mascarade reserves the right to refuse entry to, or remove, any guest who does not comply with our Code of Conduct, without refund. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Buy only from us.
Conduct
Courtesy to everyone: guests, hosts, merchants, and volunteers. The period is a costume, not a licence. A mask is not consent. Ask before you touch anyone or photograph them closely, and take a refusal gracefully. Harassment, threats, and discrimination end a weekend early.
Any guest exhibiting intoxicated or unsafe behaviour will be removed from the festival grounds by security.
To report a concern, speak to any member of our guild, any volunteer, or come to the blue tent beside the entrance.
Dress
Costumes and masks are not required but strongly encouraged. Dress for any year of the nineteenth century if you can, modern clothes if you prefer, and a mask either way. Nothing offensive, vulgar, or political, and no costume that poses as emergency services or security. Full-face masks are welcome; they come off once at the ID check, and whenever our guild, security, or emergency services ask.
Props
Non-functional canes, fans, parasols, and props are welcome once peace-tied at the entrance. No blades. No working or replica firearms. All props must be inspected before entry.
Not permitted
Outside food and drink (exceptions for baby food, formula, breast milk, and medical needs), alcohol, cannabis, illegal substances, glass containers, pets (service animals welcome), drones, wheeled transport (strollers and mobility devices welcome), suitcases, open flame. The full list is in our Code of Conduct.
Bags
Every bag is checked at the entrance. Prohibited items go back to your vehicle. We do not hold items.
Alcohol
The entire Neptune Drive-In grounds are covered under the festival’s liquor licence. Alcoholic beverages are served to guests aged 19 and over with a 19+ bracelet.
Smoking and vaping
Smoking, vaping, and the consumption of cannabis are not permitted anywhere on the festival grounds.
Weather
Rain or shine. We may pause or close for dangerous conditions. Pauses and closures are not refunded.
Photography
The Mascarade is photographed and filmed. By attending, you consent to appearing in promotional materials. Personal photos welcome. Commercial filming requires written permission.
First aid
First aid is available on the grounds, beside the entrance. Emergency medical services are present during festival hours.
Lost and found
Lost items are held for 30 days. During the festival, speak to any guild member. After the festival, contact mascarade@shediacwonderland.ca.
Risk
The weekend includes dancing, demonstrations with steel in trained hands, candlelight, fire effects, loud music, and uneven outdoor ground. Guests attend at their own risk.
